Many women were wondering why they had never seen an image of their own body under the skin. They also questioned why only the male muscle anatomy pictures were shown in biology classes and textbooks.
The human body is a wonderful piece of creation, so intricate, and we've all studied anatomy in high school and learned extensively about body functions and the way it looks like. However, a recent tweet on how milk ducts in a female body look like has completely shaken the internet users, reports BBC.
I just realized I never saw a photo of a female muscle system. This is NOT what I imagined milk ducts to look like. pic.twitter.com/GBK6trgXF8— Artist formerly known as Byeonce (@lemonadead) April 21, 2019
Okay, considering the fact that many of us have been breastfed from our mother's milk ducts, the recent image showing what an inside of a woman's breasts actually looks like, below the skin, has grossed out plenty. But we are not here to judge.
literally makes me want to slice mine off im so grossed out rn like my skin is crawling— stef (@pr1nc3ssstef) April 25, 2019
This tweet went viral within a day and racked up over 138,000 likes and 49,000 retweets from most people who had no idea what milk ducts looked like. It reveals the milk-making glands divided into segments and also the narrow tubes that carry the milk from each segment to the nipple.
No I really didn't need to see this, hmmm the trauma!— Ms_MashP (@MsMashP) April 22, 2019
That milk duct pic has freaked me out I'd like to formally ask every girl to continue not showing me their boobs— adam (@RummHammm) April 23, 2019
Several Twitter users were legit creeped out while a user said, "How are some of you finding this beautiful? I'm legit STRESSED knowing this is inside my titties." A Twitter user even went on to say, "It looks like a weird alien creature lives inside my body and now I'm terrified," wrote one woman. "Thanks for stopping me from sleeping tonight."
the milk duct photo is triggering like a trypophobia I didn’t know I had and I am STRESSED— giulia (@jmashh_) April 23, 2019
People found the photo of these flower-like muscles rather odd, claiming as some sort of crazy omission from their anatomy class at school. It was mostly women who were wondering why they had never seen an image of their own body under the skin. They also questioned why only the male muscle anatomy pictures were shown in biology classes and textbooks.
I DONT WANT BREASTS ANYMORE— FARMING EQUIPMENT UPDATES (@chicknclit) April 23, 2019
While many other users said that the milk ducts reminded them of everyday items, including water balloons to fake nail tips. @nottthateasysis had a weirdly creative imagination: "It looks like those water balloons where all you have to do it attach the hose then 100 water balloons fill up."
I’m trying to understand why ppl don’t wanna see it. Its beautiful. I’m bias bc my wife is currently breastfeeding lol— Sean (@TheSeanMo) April 23, 2019
However, many users also found the picture wonderful and saw the natural beauty in the flower-like ducts. But what really broke the ice for many was the natural act of breastfeeding with it. "Okay...a bit scary at first but then they kind of look like flowers covering the muscle. I think it's pretty. Love it! ...Also this explains a lot"
It’s beautiful to me- I breastfed my kids and wow! Those things nourished my babies.— YourFavBlackAuntie (@greendoondoon) April 22, 2019
However, a report on Science Alert has debunked the viral image and said that it is not 'entirely correct.' The website claims that the picture actually showed up on the internet, almost three years and the poster was not the original author of the picture. The image is not actually a female muscle system, but it is, in fact, from the screenshot of an iPad app.
They have argued that female breasts don't actually have muscles at all. The photo also describes the red blobs as mammary glands, when, in reality, the entire breast is a mammary gland. The flower-shaped things are not ducts and that they are just lobules -- except in a real female breast, they are not arranged in such a neat pattern at all.
