After Avengers: Endgame's much-expected success which earned them over $1.3 billion, how much do you think the actors got paid?
Let's face it, Marvel's Endgame had to be one of the most anticipated movies in the history of Hollywood. When it hit the theatres on Friday, it broke all Box Office records by accumulating $1.22 billion globally. The final installment of the Avengers' saga didn't hold anything back as they presented every possible character to fight the last battle of this era. Surely, Endgame does not mean the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there are other characters who are set to continue on the legendary name.
While we can't exactly be sure of all the characters that will be returning to the big screen, we are sure of the ones who hung up their suits and bid goodbye with a snap of a finger. Given that this was their last appearance it won't come as a shock that they made good money off of it. Now, how much do you think our favorite superheroes earned out of this blockbuster movie? Well, according to the figures mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter we have a ballpark with some interesting details.
Beware of the spoilers people!
Let's start with our favorite, Robert Downey Jr. It was an emotional moment for all the Avengers fans when they witnessed the fate of their beloved Ironman. With the release of the first Ironman movie in 2008, we instantly fell in love with the billionaire, playboy, genius, philanthropist, and the last thing we wanted was to let him go. RDJ has a huge role in laying down a strong foundation for future MCU films. Thankfully, his presence since the very birth of this series established a strong hold over the audience. According to reports, he was paid around $ 75 million just for Avengers: Infinity War which obviously makes his share a lot more for the latest installment, that includes several bonuses for record-breaking performance on Box Office.
It will be interesting to see if Avengers: Endgame manages to beat the reigning box-office champion Avatar, which sits at $2.7 billion. Another interesting fact surfaced revealing how Downey’s initial involvement helped his camp come up with a "unique financial arrangement" with studio head Kevin Feige. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the actor was paid $15 million for only three days of work in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Marvel set $400 million aside for both the Avengers movies to fairly compensate its director, producers, screenwriters and of course the principal actors, as per reports.
Next up is Scarlett Johansson, whose character Black Widow was first introduced in the 2010 hit Iron Man 2, and who has been playing an integral role ever since. With her character's unexpected demise way before the final leg of the battle, it had to be Johansson's final appearance for which she surely received a huge share of bling! You don't have to be disappointed for long though, Marvel has finally waved the green flag on the long-awaited Black Widow movie which is slated to release in 2020. Given the death of the character in Endgame, it's presumed to be a prequel directed by Cate Shortland. A "figure in the $20 million range" is what Johansson will receive for starring and producing it.
In 2010, Chris Hemsworth signed a five-movie deal with Marvel, which was renegotiated for his appearance in the last two films in 2017. Hemsworth also confirmed Endgame to be his last MCU movie, just before the release of the epic blockbuster. That being said, the final moments of Endgame hints towards him joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Also, Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok's director, showed a keen interest in directing a fourth standalone Thor movie. The Hollywood Reporter revealed Hemsworth to have earned somewhere between "$15 million-to-$20 million range."
As for Chris Evans, who has always been transparent about his departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems like he will not be returning for any of the upcoming movies. We can only hope that Captain America makes a surprise appearance in the distant future, at least for MCU's 20th anniversary. According to sources he can be easily put in the range of $15 million to $20 million for his unmatched performance in the movies.
Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) October 4, 2018
